One of the elementst that makes Star Wars so great is the story of its characters, but certain objects in the saga have as much character as the creatures that are featured in them. Case in point – Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber.
A new video uploaded by YouTuber Christopher Sherwoodhas perfectly captured the journey of that iconic lightsaber throughout every Star Wars film that has been released so far. From Anakin Skywalker to Obi-Wan Kenobi, then Luke Skywalker to Maz Kanata, then Rey and back to Luke again, the video shows how the weapon helped mold the story of the Skywalker family and the light and dark sides of the galaxy.
John Williams’ The Force Theme has been re-edited to fit the scenes in this video, but it was sensibly done that the video actually had me tearing up a bit. That look on Luke’s face when Rey was handing him the lightsaber at the end of The Force Awakens is just one of the most powerful moments in the film.

One of the most interesting mysteries left unanswered in Star Wars: The Force Awakens is how Luke’s lightsaber ended up with Maz. Of course, we’re still waiting for that to be answered in future entries of the film series, but Sherwood’s expertly edited video has me looking forward to Maz’s explanation in Episode VIII.
