In Case You Didn't Know, Michael Mando Is Playing This Classic Spidey Villain In Spider-Man: Homecoming

Better Call Saul's Michael Mando is one of my favorite actors today, and I'm happy to see him cast in a movie as big as Spider-Man: Homecoming. For a while we've known that he's playing a classic Spider-Man comic villain, and the actor himself has confirmed it on Instagram. He's playing Scorpion.

Like I said, I really like Mando, and though his character in the comics can come off as a bit silly, I think they've written him in such a way that makes use of Mando's terrific threatening aura. There are even rumors that his Scorpion will wear the suit in the Silver & Black spinoff movie.

One of the biggest problems with Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the inclusion of too many villains in the movie. You just can't expect each villain to be compelling, and having them together makes them feel half-assed. With Spider-Man: Homecoming however, we're being introduced to a whole new string of villains from the comics, but the movie seems like it's pulling this off.

I think the main reason is because all the attention is put solely on Michael Keaton's Vulture and it's emphasized that the rest of the villains are sort of just cameo roles in the movie. I think Rhino's inclusion of TAS 2 would have been more appreciated if they didn't put too much attention on him in the ad campaign.

Mando is the Scorpion in Spider-Man: Homecoming which hits theaters July 7.
