Ian McShane Reveals John Wick: Chapter Two Plot Details

The Deadwood star Ian McShane made his Game of Thrones debut and exit in Sunday night's episode (You can read more about his role here). During his interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Emmy-winner talked about one of his upcoming films, John Wick: Chapter Two McShane is set to reprise his role as Winston, the owner of the Continental Hotel that serves as the meeting place for the assassins. The actor shared some interesting details about the plot, and it sounds like he's confident that it will be better than the first John Wick film.

"Well, I'm kind of the only one left from the first one. This is same kind of premise. It's not like two years later, but pretty soon after the first one," McShane told EW. "Keanu [Reeves] is a great guy. They got this terrific Italian kid, Riccardo Scamarcio, who plays the chief villain, who's excellent, and we have a lot of stuff together. And the guy who directs it, Chad Stahelski, is really smart. He's been Keanu's stunt guy for [nearly] 20 years and he's studied muay-thai. He's got every stunt man who's available for [this film]. The action looks like it was done by somebody out of Hong Kong instead of Hollywood which I always think is a great sight."

As those of you who have seen the first film already know, John Wick was a story about vengeance after three mobsters killed his precious dog. Apparently, the sequel will also have a vengeance premise, to some degree. Here's what McShane said about that:

Keanu gets a new dog. But yes, it's about what comes on him after that. It's all about the assassin's code, if you like. He's killed a Russian gangster and now there's a contract out on him, so it's a continuation. I loved the first one. This could be even better than the first.

The sense of continuity reminds me of the Taken franchise, but hopefully we'll see the sequel's story head to a unique direction. Here's the official synopsis for John Wick: Chapter Two:

Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins' guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world's deadliest killers. Lionsgate's "John Wick: Chapter 2" arriving in theaters on February 10, 2017.
