Hyouka Gets Live-Action Cast Additions

Hyouka is joining the ranks of the live-action department. This time, the staff has already confirmed two of the main cast members.

According to Anime News Network, Your Lie in April's Kento Yamazaki and Silver Spoon's Alice Hirose will play the roles of Hotaro Oreki and Eru Chitanda respectively.

I've always loved the mysterious and languid pace of Hyouka as an anime. There's something about that high school mystery-solving after-school club that makes me look back at adventures back in my own high school.

Of course, it also boils down to the actors. Hotaro is interesting because of his total disinterest in things and activities that will make him expend too much energy. Chitanda is able to balance her unbridled curiosity and cute factor just right.

Those who aren't familiar with the story only need to know two things: Hotaro hates using too much energy and Chitanda is a ball of high energy. And the nice dynamic works, if only because we see Hotaro's nice transition from indifferent guy to the bright-when-you-need-him-to-be boy.

I have high hopes for this live-action adaptation, and I can't wait until we hear the announcements for the other cast members, who are just as interesting in their own right.

Hyouka's live-action run will be directed by Mari Asato. It will be released sometime in 2017.

Read:Arrow's milestone episode will be radical.
