Hugh Jackman already made up his mind about departing from his iconic X-Men role, with Logan being the final film where he'll play Wolverine, but it turns out that the Australian actor would have around in his character's shoes even longer if Marvel and Fox agreed on a deal to let the X-Men join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Of course, fans would love to see that, but sadly, we'll probably never see Jackman's Wolverine fight Mark Ruffalo's The Hulk. When ScreenRant asked Jackman what he would do if he was offered a role in an Avengers film, he said:
"If that was on the table when I made my decision, it certainly would have made me pause. That's for sure. Because I always love the idea of him within that dynamic, with the Hulk obviously, with Iron Man but there's a lot of smarter people with MBAs who can't figure that out [laughter]. You never know."
Jackman talked about the elements of the Old Man Logan comic arc that Fox couldn't include in the James Mangold-helmed film such as The Hulk and his inbred kids. Jackman reiterated that a crossover between the two Marvel teams would have given him motivation to stick around as Wolverine longer.
"At the moment, honestly, if I really did have them there, I probably wouldn't have said this is the last. It just feels like this is the right time [to leave the character]."
Too bad Marvel and Fox didn't work on a deal before Jackman decided it's time for him to depart from the role. It's sad for a lot of fans who would like to see Wolverine interact with members of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy on the big screen.
