How Black Panther Made Fans Cry On Civil War Set

Captain America: Civil War will feature a ton of characters that we've seen so far from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will also be the first time that newcomers Ant-Man and Black Panther will be shown alongside with the rest of the Avengers on the big screen.

In the middle of June last year during a set visit for Captain America: Civil War in Atlanta, Georgia, fans were excited to see beloved characters Captain America and Iron Man stepping out in costume. However, it's a different feeling altogether when they saw Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa, the prince of Wakanda (a.k.a. Black Panther).

According to Cinema Blend, fans were so overwhelmed by Black Panther's appearance that they started crying.

Civil War Co-director Joe Russo explained the moment:

Today was the first day that the character worked in costume, and when he came out on set, there were some comic book fans who were just tearing up. It's a real moment for people to see this character for the first time on screen. People who grew up and championed this character as kids, and was a role model for them, their favorite hero. The sense of that, as a comic book fan, there was [an] historic nature of getting him on screen for the first time.

Boseman has prepared intensely for his role as T'Challa in Civil War. While the 39-year-old actor admitted that he's not acquainted with the comics, he said that he got into the material and divulged a lot of narratives that involved the character. Boseman also traveled to South Africa to familiarize himself with the culture of his character.

Recent Civil War posters released show the Black Panther on Team Iron Man, but it remains unknown where his true loyalties lie. Though I believe his role is the most important since the actor has confirmed before that he isn't on anybody's team. He could be that one person who can tame the superhero war and put some sense into the Avengers.

Captain America: Civil War will hit theaters on May 6.
