House of the Dragon Fans Convinced Henry Cavill Left The Witcher for Game of Thrones Prequel

There is little doubt that people are still in shock after it was announced that Henry Cavill is officially leaving The Witcher and will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth in Season 4. However, the news also has fans speculating on the Black Adam star's future and some believe that he is actually joining the cast of House of the Dragon Season 2.

On Saturday, Netflix confirmed that Henry Cavill has decided to leave The Witcher after playing Geralt of Rivia in the show's first three seasons. It was also revealed that Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth will take over the role in Season 4 (Cavill will still appear in the show's third season next year).

Despite Cavill and Hemsworth's gracious statements about the recast, people are not taking the news too well. Some fans are blaming Warner Bros. for calling on Cavill to return as Superman in future DC Extended Universe projects. On the other hand, others are convinced that the Justice League star signed on to multiple big-budget projects that forced him to abandon the Netflix series.

Although nothing is confirmed yet, people believe that one of those big-budget projects is another fantasy series. There have been previous reports of Henry Cavill joining House of the Dragon Season 2 and those speculations have returned after the news of his departure from The Witcher.

But who could Cavill play in House of the Dragon Season 2? There are speculations that he will portray Aegon I Targaryen, aka Aegon the Conqueror, aka the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and king on the Iron Throne. The original Aegon has been referenced numerous times in the first season and fans are hoping that the character will finally get fleshed out in the HBO series.

Although we're loving the idea of Henry Cavill playing Aegon the Conqueror, the casting is also improbable considering the show's current timeline. House of the Dragon Season 2 is expected to move forward with the Dance of the Dragons which happens almost a century after Aegon's death.

House of the Dragon Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
