Masi Oka is the lastest cast member to join Netflix's upcoming live-action Death Note film, Anime News Networkreports. He will also be a producer on the film. The actor is best know for his roles in the TV shows Heroes and Hawaii Five-O.

The Death Note film will be based off a 2003 manga about a teenager named Light Yagami who finds a notebook wherein any name written in it will lead to to the named person's death within a minute (provided the writer has also seen that person's face). Light decides to use this power to kill the criminals of the world. These mysterious deaths quickly catch the attention of both international police and an enigmatic, eccentric detective.

Death Note has already received several live-action adaptations, including a Japanese live-action movie in 2006 and the recent sequel to that movie, this year'sDeath Note: Light Up the NEW World. There's also been a 2014 stage musical inspired by the manga.

The upcoming Netflix film will be directed by Adam Winguard, known for The Guest and You're Next. Previously announced cast includes Nat Wolf (The Fault in Our Stars) as Light "Turner" and Keith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton) as L. The movie will premiere on Netflix in 2017.

I'm a little skeptical about this movie, but it will be interesting to see what happens to it. I wonder what role Oka will be playing. What do you think?
