Here’s Why Thor’s Stormbreaker Is Just As Powerful As The Infinity Gauntlet

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.

Thor (Chris Hemsworth) had a pretty intense arc in Avengers: Infinity War. After losing his brother and his people to Thanos during the opening of the film, the Asgardian God of Thunder spent most of his time on screen looking for a way to forge a new weapon to take on the Mad Titan.

With Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel) by his side, Thor headed out to Nidavellir to look for the help of the Dwarf King of Nidavellir, Eitri (Peter Dinklage). Together, Thor and his friends were able to forge Stormbreaker, an ax strong enough to kill Thanos.

But is Stormbreaker as strong as Thanos Infinity Gauntlet? Seeing Stormbreaker find its way to Thanos' chest at the end of the film, fans have started wondering how powerful Thor's new ax really is.

Speaking in an interview with Collider, Avengers: Infinity War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely confirm the power of the ax. Fans might not know it, but according to the writers, the Stormbreaker actually had to cut through the power of the Gauntlet to get through to Thanos.

"I imagine it has something to do with the fact that the same guy made both of them," Markus explained. "It's dwarfen magic."

"Eitri can make what he likes for whom he likes," Mcfeely added. The writer also compared the built-in weakness of the Gauntlet to that of the Death Star from Star Wars.

Given that the Infinity Gauntlet and Stormbreaker were made by the same person, it seems pretty reasonable to see both weapons standing on equal ground when it comes to power. It's just a shame that Thor didn't go for Thanos' head instead.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently screening in cinemas.
