Here’s Why Marvel is Shooting Avengers: Infinity War & Sequel Separately

Avengers: Infinity War is probably Marvel's biggest and most ambitious project to date. Apart from having so many heroes onscreen in the span of its screen time, the creators of the production even dared to produce the movie simultaneously.

Those who have seen Marvel's projects during its three-year run would know that the studio has already learned from the very first movie that they rolled out. Indeed, the first Iron Man movie is a far cry from where Captain America: Civil War stands. So we know that Marvel Studios can achieve feats that we can only deem unimaginable.

Still, there are some projects that that the studio would prefer to pour in extra time and resources to. And that's with Avengers: Infinity War, and its still-untitled sequel. From the original plan of simultaneous filming Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed with Collider that this won't be the plan now.

"We're doing them one right after another. It became too complicated to cross-board them like that, and we found ourselves--again, something would always pay the price. We wanted to be able to focus and shoot one movie and then focus and shoot another movie."

Perhaps it's the growing MCU fangirl in me, but I appreciate this move way more. If anything, it's half the guarantee that Marvel is in it to create a good movie and not just meet goals by the end of its 10th-year cycle. For another, it's a great way for the Russo brother-directors to keep their plan of attack fresh. After all, even though they are very related movies, we would want to see variability in the way that they handle each title.

Avengers: Infinity War is expected to arrive in theaters on May 4, 2018, while the sequel will be out a year later.
