Here’s Why Ant-Man 2 Will Feature This Important Character

When Paul Rudd made his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with quite the bang, the movie already brought hints of what could come following the original title. We've already seen who will become Wasp. While the storyline for the movie is not yet clear, director Peyton Reed does see the two as more of a team, which will be crucial for the sequel.

During the press day of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (via Collider), Reed gave a hint as to how Wasp, to be portrayed by Evangeline Lilly, will be fleshed out on screen.

"I always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team and that's a lot of what the second movie is really about is how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like. To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting. We really get to introduce this character into that universe. I mean we've introduced the character, but we haven't seen her with her full power set and everything, so to me she's not a supporting character in this movie. It's every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang's."

There are two good things that we should consider here. The first is that the little shout-out in the original movie didn't go to waste, as we did get to see the costume of Wasp even before the potential wielder was confirmed. And two, MCU is seriously lacking in the female hero department, so adding Wasp as not just a sidekick but rather a full-fledged hero in her own right gives us more of that on screen.

If what Reed teased holds until the final cut, we won't even need a standalone movie for that character. At the same time, Marvel even has the bonus of keeping that tandem team-up between Ant-Man and Wasp intact.

For now, we'd have to wait and see what happens with the Ant-Man sequel. Ant-Man and the Wasp will be out in theaters on July 6, 2018.
