Here’s What Cable’s Time-Traveling Abilities Can Bring

Josh Brolin's casting as Cable—pretty much the foil to Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool once the sequel comes out—has been something of a blast in the fandom.

Apart from looking the part, everyone can easily see how he will fare as the gruff X-Force member. As a character in the X-Men universe though, Cable is also bringing in the ability to time travel—and that alone is already something that allows for some very interesting storylines in themselves.

Producer and writer Hutch Parker said in an interview with Screenrant that filmmaking within the genre has expanded so much that it takes more than just mechanisms to move the story. As he had shared earlier, the audience is very much more attuned to he details, so good storytelling is just as important as eye candy.

"It just opens a whole series of doors. I think that was part of what was so exciting of adding him to the mix is, not only what he brings as a character--and I think what I think Brolin will bring to the part, which I think was just brilliant casting--but it expands the landscape again and gives us more flexibility and opportunity which is one of the ways we can keep this franchise feeling vibrant and exciting and fresh--by introducing elements that are exciting and dynamic and different."

Bringing Cable into the mix, particularly in Deadpool 2, will also expand the kind of story and perhaps even treatment for the story. It would be even more interesting to see the dynamics of Cable, Deadpool, and Domino, the last being his sidekick and all around interesting right hand woman.

X-Men has become a much interesting franchise, going deeper than the cookie cutter superhero treatment of good versus evil. Whether Cable can add to that depth, we'll have to see with the anticipated sequel.

Deadpool 2 will start production this year, with an expected release date sometime next year.
