Here’s How the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Will Expand the Story & Cast

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is going to be a hell of a ride—and that's thanks to a bigger story and a bigger cast.

The latest scoop for the sequel involves director James Gunn's newest statement regarding the primary story that the script and production focused on. In the bonus reel from the Doctor Strange Digital HD release (via Comicbook.com), Gunn shared that the expansion of the story dealt with how the creators were able to expand the characters from their own limits.

"I think the primary story is really about learning that thing that we think we want, that we're going to get outside of ourselves and outside of these relationships that we have, has been there all along."

As far as the casting is concerned, there's also an interesting new confirmation from Tony Goldwyn of The Belko Experiment. Nuke the Fridge was able to uncover that he was actually contacted by Gunn for a small part in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. More interesting is the statement that followed:

"It's very small but he said you might come back in number 3. Anything for James Gunn. I was already in Atlanta so I went to spend a day in a spaceship."

Coming back for another run may mean a bigger role for Goldwyn in case the director's plan for the final GotG movie pushes through. From what we've seen with Nebula, who had been there as essentially a side character in the first one, she has become one of the focal points in the second one, so it won't be a surprise if this also happens with Goldwyn's character.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be out in theaters on May 5.
