Here’s How Freya Allan Prepared for the Nilfgaard Invasion Scene in The Witcher

One of the pivotal points in Netflix's The Witcher is the attack of the Nilfgaardians on Cintra. Ciri had to leave her grandmother behind and is set on a mission to find Geralt of Rivia. The scene was very intense and brutal, so it wouldn't be surprising that Freya Allen actually found it as quite a challenge.

In a recent interview with Comic Book, Allan was asked regarding her initial thoughts when she read the script. "It was a challenge, and I had wanted a challenge when I took on the role, and I just had to get myself into a very particular kind of headspace during those scenes," Allan said. She revealed that she has a playlist of music from film and she would listen to those and would try to be on her own to get "into that kind of zone." "So, those scenes were very challenging, but that was kind of how I went about it and watching films that inspired me," she added.

When she read the script, Allan recalled that she was very excited to be challenged. "And I think actually, a couple of those scenes for us [...] were in my audition, and so I'd kind of seen them before, I was kind of familiar with them, which was nice," she said. She admitted that she was surprised for Ciri to not be with Yennefer and Geralt, but she "kind of liked that" too. "Because I was thinking, 'Oh great. It means I can establish she's serious and independent of that,' but I hadn't expected that before the script came in," Allan explained.

In this adaptation, Ciri has mysterious abilities that she is aware of but is yet to discover further. The last episode of the first season showed that Ciri and Geralt finally crossed paths, but viewers were left with a huge cliff hanger. Regardless, they are excited to see how the pair's relationship will grow in the second season.

The Witcher Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
