HBO's Watchmen Show Is Officially Being Made, First Image Revealed

It looks like the rumored Watchmen television show from HBO is officially being developed. HBO has a stellar track record when it comes to gritty, R-rated TV, so this could be really good. Rumors about the program started sometime last year, but Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof has essentially made it official with an Instagram post.

Lindelof's picture is pretty simple; the feet of a small statue or trophy with "in gratitude" written on the bottom. This is probably the trophy that belongs to the original Night Owl Hollis Mason, which is seen in the series' first issue. It might not be as iconic as the button, which is now a super-powered mcguffin in DC Rebirth, but it's still a fairly important item from the series.

Fans will remember how Daniel Dreiberg, the second Night Owl, was looking at the statue with admiration whilst talking to Mason in the first issue. What's tragic is, Mason is later killed by a gang with that same statue, after being mistaken for the second Night Owl, who broke Rorschach out of jail with Silk Spectre. Needless to say, that picture will get fans buzzing until the inevitable first trailer.

HBO's Watchmen has no release date or window yet, so fans will have to be patient. In the meantime, fans can see how these characters get integrated into the main DC Universe with Doomsday Clock #1, which hits comic shelves in November.
