HBO's Watchmen: Is Jeremy Irons Playing an Older Ozymandias?

Updates for HBO's Watchmen have been so-so until it was announced that the series has cast the DCEU's Alfred Pennyworth, Jeremy Irons. Irons is said to have been cast as "The Blonde Man" but the information on the character seems to point out that he is an older Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias.

According to That Hashtag Show, Irons' character is described as an "aging and imperious lord of a British manor." We know that Veidt isn't British, but the following description seems consistent with his character:

"Highly intelligent and won't let you forget it. Think William Hurt with slight Asperger's. He's used to being obeyed and always correct. Arrogant, erudite and patrician. Physically fit, he's never missed a workout in his life."

With set photos showing that Veidt has been announced dead in the universe, it would make sense that he simply faked it, and is now living in hiding—possibly as Jeremy Irons' character. This seems like a pretty big reveal, but hopefully it's something that the show has been planning to tell us from the very beginning—otherwise, we may just have spoiled the series.

Then again, we should take this news with a grain of salt. This Blonde Man character may even be entirely new and not Ozymandias at all.

Though the series isn't an adaptation of the comic, more evidence is coming out that it's actually a continuation of the comic storyline. Hopefully showrunner Damon Lindelof can come up with a spinoff that would stay faithful to the spirit of Alan Moore's original work.

No release date has been set for HBO's Watchmen.
