HBO Max Drops Mortal Kombat Opening Scene Teasing Epic Scorpion vs Sub-Zero Fight

The premiere of the Mortal Kombat movie is finally happening this week and we're all hyped up about the upcoming film reboot. So what can fans expect in the highly anticipated new film? HBO Max is giving us a taste of the action by sharing the first seven minutes that leads to the epic showdown between the future Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

We already know that Mortal Kombat will open with a flashback sequence set in feudal Japan that follows the origins of Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The first seven minutes of the film introduces Hanzo Hasashi (Hiroyuki Sanada) and his family trying to live a simple life although his home is also guarded by fellow samurai.

While Hanzo is sent by his wife to fetch more water, the compound is suddenly attacked by Bi-Han (Joe Taslim), a member of a rival ninja clan who is revealed to be able to create ice from his hands. As he confronts Hanzo's wife and son, she screams, alerting her husband who immediately rushes back to his home.

And now we get to the fun part. Hanzo picks up the kunai that his wife was using for gardening earlier and ties it to some rope to use as a weapon. We then get to see some of Scorpion's awesome moves without the supernatural element but it's still amazing.

Sadly, the footage stops right before we get to the best part of the sequence: The brutal and messy showdown between Hanzo and Bi-Han. However, it's enough for us to hope that Friday comes a lot sooner this week.

Mortal Kombat will premiere in selected theaters and on HBO Max on April 23, 2021.
