HBO Has Been Hacked & Game of Thrones Details Have Reportedly Been Leaked Online

HBO, the network behind great shows like Game of Thrones, has experienced a cyber attack, and it turns out data related to its shows has been leaked online, Entertainment Weekly reports. The source also reported that the upcoming episodes of some HBO shows have been released online as some written material from the upcoming Game of Thrones episode, with a threat of more data to be leaked soon. HBO has confirmed the hack and released a statement about the serious problem.

"HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information. We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold."

According to the report, hackers have stolen around 1.5 TB of data from the network and some of it has been leaked online, including upcoming episodes of Room 104 and Ballers, and some written material from unreleased Game of Thrones episode.

Here's the email that HBO CEO and chairman Richard Pieper has sent to employees (via EW):

"As most of you have probably heard by now, there has been a cyber incident directed at the company which has resulted in some stolen proprietary information, including some of our programming," he wrote. "Any intrusion of this nature is obviously disruptive, unsettling, and disturbing for all of us. I can assure you that senior leadership and our extraordinary technology team, along with outside experts, are working round the clock to protect our collective interests. The efforts across multiple departments have been nothing short of herculean. It is a textbook example of quintessential HBO teamwork. The problem before us is unfortunately all too familiar in the world we now find ourselves a part of. As has been the case with any challenge we have ever faced, I have absolutely no doubt that we will navigate our way through this successfully."

The exact details about the leaks are still unknown, and no unreleased episode of Game of Thrones have been leaked online. If the hackers decide to leak the episode, it won't be the first time such a thing has happened. Back when Season 5 started to premiere on HBO, the first four episodes of Season 5 were leaked simultaneously, and last season, one episode was leaked a few hours before it was supposed to air.

We'll keep you updated about the leaks as soon as we hear more about them.
