Hasbro Buys Power Rangers

It looks like we won't be calling it Saban's Power Rangers anymore. Hasbro, the company that owns Transformers, GI Joe, and Micronauts has bought Power Rangers, one of the most successful franchises out there. This is one of the more surprising purchases in recent memory and should present an interesting future for Hasbro from here on out.

Revealed via a press release, Hasbro now owns everything related to Power Rangers, from the television show and maybe even the movie rights. Hasbro previously paid Saban $22.25 million just to distribute the toy rights, so it looks like this move was inevitable.

Under the terms of the purchase agreement, Hasbro will pay an additional $229.75 million in cash and will issue $270 million worth of Hasbro common stock for the Power Rangers brand and several other entertainment brands. The agreement includes all related intellectual property, category rights and content libraries owned by Saban Properties and its affiliates. The transaction is subject to a number of customary closing conditions, including obtaining required regulatory approvals, and is expected to close during the second quarter of 2018.

Aside from the new comic books published by Boom Studios and the television show, there hasn't been much buzz regarding the Power Rangers. We did get a movie last year but it wasn't the success everyone wanted it to be.

Hasbro will release their first Power Rangers in 2019.
