News has just come out that Showtime's Halo series has resumed filming, and though that's good for the show, it looks like there will be a last-minute recast when it comes to the character of Cortana.

According to IGN, Halo is replacing Natascha McElhone, who was originally cast as the show's Cortana, with original voice Cortana voice actress Jen Taylor. The reason for the change was said to be scheduling issues, as the pandemic won't be allowing McElhone to reprise the role of both Cortana and her creator Dr. Catherine Halsey.

It's worth noting that Taylor has played the role of Cortana in Halo1,2,3, Reach, 4,and 5. Taylor had also played the part of Dr. Halsey in the games, but we're not sure what the case would be come the live-action series. Would McElhone keep the part of Halsey with Taylor doing the role of Cortana? It only really matters on how much work McElhone had already done for the series before lockdown started.

As it stands, Cortana is probably the only other popular character in the Halo franchise besides Master Chief. While players do get to take control of MC, there has always been a disconnect because of the secrecy surrounding the character's face. Cortana, on the other hand, is a classic video game companion, and probably one of the earlier video game waifus.

No release date has been set for the Halo series yet, but the show is expected to come out on Showtime sometime in 2021.
