Halle Barry Jokes that Her Catwoman Paved the Way for Black Panther

2004's Catwoman starring Halle Berry was a huge wreck, and we haven't gotten a solo movie starring Catwoman ever since. With Black Panther's success, however, Berry pokes fun at Catwoman paving the way for the film on cinema, and she also says it's high-time the character gets a reboot onscreen.

Talking during the GLAAD Media Awards (via ComicBookMovie), Berry jokes:

"Each story builds on the next. It's like that old saying goes: behind every Black Panther is a great black Catwoman! You know, I've gotten a really bad rap for this role, and I think Catwoman deserves another goddamn chance, don't you?"

Though Berry may joke that Catwoman paved some sort of way for movies, it actually closed the door on more superheroine lead films. After it's terrible reception in 2004, we had to wait almost a decade and a half to get a superhero movie lead by a woman with Wonder Woman.

When it comes to Catwoman, it's pretty hard to see any pros from the film at all. Sure it had a black female protagonist, but the movie was just so awful that it practically insults everyone involved with making it. But Berry does have a point when she says that Catwoman deserves another chance. Let's hope the DCEU is finding a way to bring her back onscreen soon. Anne Hathaway was great in The Dark Knight Rises, but we need a new face for the cat-loving cat burglar.

The DCEU has not announced any appearance for Catwoman anytime soon.
