The Dark Side apparently needs more money. A man wearing a Darth Vader mask and dark costume robbed a Pineville, North Carolina, bank Monday, according to police. He was also wearing a chestplate and gloves.
Authorities say the robber entered the Pineville State Employees Credit Union just before noon, but he wasn't armed with a red lightsaber; he was armed with a rifle. The Sith Lord demanded money from a bank teller and escaped in a four-door gray Chevy Suburban SUV - not a TIE fighter.
According to witnesses, the suspect was shorter than the iconic Star Wars character he's portraying, standing approximately 5-feet-5-inches tall.
"It was right around lunchtime (in a) very busy area, (a) very busy intersection in our town," Pineville police Lt. Corey Copley told Charlotte television station WSOC-TV. "(There's) a lot of foot traffic in and out of the bank at that time of day."
He reportedly fled the scene with thousands of dollars. Thankfully, no one got injured in the robbery.
"This is definitely something unusual that you don't see every day in law enforcement," Copley said.
He's probably just gathering funds for the next Death Star.
