Ever since James Gunn's first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Chris Pratt has always been Star-Lord, the goofy leader of everyone's favorite group of space misfits. However, before he became Peter Quill, Pratt tried out for a different role – Captain America.
Disney prepared a few new featurettes for Avengers: Endgame's release on Disney+, and in one of the videos (via ComicBook.com), Marvel Studios casting director Sara Finn opens up about a few casting secrets in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Apparently, Finn had been first alerted to Pratt's acting talents when he auditioned for the role of Steve Rogers. That's right. The Parks and Rec favorite tried his hand at becoming Marvel's First Avenger.
Though the role ended up going to Chris Evans, Pratt's audition kept him on the radar for other Marvel projects. Finn pitched Pratt for Star-Lord's role in Guardians of the Galaxy, though the casting director reveals that the audition was a bit troubling to put together.
"James Gunn has been very generous about this in saying that I, to the point of annoying him, kept insisting that Chris Pratt was the guy for the part, but Chris didn't want to play the part and refused to audition," Finn said.
When the casting director finally got Pratt to audition, Gunn didn't want to see the actor, so it posed an extra challenge for Finn. Luckily, the two finally got together, and Pratt has been Star-Lord ever since.
We can't wait to see what kind of adventures Gunn has prepared for Peter Quill and the rest of Marvel's cosmic thugs-turned-heroes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
