It looks like a release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has begun making the rounds online.
Now that Disney's settled its issue with James Gunn, the director is set to develop his third Guardians of the Galaxy movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, the studio hasn't given Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 an official release date so that Gunn gets enough time to complete his Suicide Squad movie for the DC Extended Universe.
Now that Suicide Squad is in the middle of production, a new rumor suggests that Marvel is setting up Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for 2023. Murphy's Multiverse writer Charly Murphy just recently took to Twitter to share a rumor from a source close to Marvel saying that the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie is going to premiere on February 17th, 2023 – a date marked a few years from now. The writer, however, notes that the date is based on old information.
"Heard another date for Vol. 3. It's based on old info, so it's possible it already changed. I'm not going to put it on the list at this point because people go nuts over that, but it sort of lines up with Karen's comments the other day, so I figured I would share it. 2/17/23," Murphy wrote on his post on Twitter.
The date doesn't sound that impossible. Though we would like the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie to come out start sooner, Gunn is still in the middle of working on the Suicide Squad. It's very likely that Marvel is preparing the film for Phase 5 of the MCU.
Of course, we can't be sure about the validity of the rumored date just yet – we have to wait for Marvel for confirmation.
Phase 4 of the MCU begins when Black Widow premieres on May 1, 2020.
