Mantis (played by Pom Klementieff) is one of the newest characters introduced in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and in the film, she is the companion to Kurt Russell's Ego the LIving Planet, and she meets the group of misfits through him. It sounds like she's spent her whole life being lonely with Ego, and her life is about to change when she starts spending time with the Guardians.

Klementieff was recently interviewed by Mashable, and she discussed her Marvel character and teased an awkward kind of romance with Drax.

"So, she's an alien. And she's always with — at the beginning, she's spent her life with Kurt Russell's character. She was pretty lonely and then she meets the Guardians and...that's it. She has empathetic powers, so it's connected with feelings and emotions."

She went on to explain the change her character's personality:

"There's an awkwardness and a curiosity and ... how do you say? She wants to discover new things...she was really lonely and by herself, so it's a completely new thing to meet these people and to discover new things and new emotions and a new way of sharing things...I think it's like a kid, you know? You discover things and you're curious about things and you make mistakes and you say, like, weird things or you're awkward. And I think in a way it's touching when you see someone do that. You're like, Oh! OK, you're not really adapted to this society."

When asked to elaborate details about her relationship with Ego and her ties to Peter Quill, her publicist quickly interjected and prevented her from making any huge reveals. However, Klementieff said that Mantis would find some common ground with Drax:

"They get along. They just — there is a friendship going on and they just click, you know?"

When asked if there would be a romantic connection between Mantis and Drax, she said:

"You'll see, you'll see! There is a funny moment, but I can't really tell. She's trying to connect with [Rocket Raccoon] and it doesn't really work."

From what we've seen in the trailers so far, it looks like Mantis will be a hilarious character to watch. I'm just excited to see how she will interact with Drax and the rest of the Guardians.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 s set to release in theaters on May 5, 2017. You can watch the extended superbowl TV spot below:
