Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 Mixtape is Crucial to Sequel

There's a reason why the title for Guardians of the Galaxy's sequel is Vol. 2 and not just the usual "2." We'll be hearing a whole new set of songs for this new round, a lot of those will be important to the film's plot.

Director James Gunn has confirmed that Star-Lord's love for the mixtape will be very much in high gear come Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. And for good reason, too, because it brings a whole new original music lineup to the table.

Speaking to Screen Rant, Marvel big boss Kevin Feige revealed that Gunn had spearheaded the process of choosing the songs as early as the script-writing process. This suggests that the songs are pretty much highly integrated into the overall narrative—as we can see in the trailer.

"The Music is all off the tape. It's all off of Volume 2. I would say that the other Guardians now know that music is a thing for Peter, so in early scenes, what you see baby Groot here… he's setting up these little outer space speakers so that the music can play for all of them because Quill likes to hear music when he's fighting."

Feige also confirmed that there's even one song that has unique lyrics that mesh well together into a specific area of the story more than any of the other songs did in the first movie.

Maybe this time, we'd hear songs that match Baby Groot's dance moves. He was already interested in music before he became the adorable sapling that he is now. And we just can't wait for those music-backed fight scenes.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be out in theaters on May 5.
