Rockstar Games has officially greenlit Grand Theft Auto 6, but fans are still clueless about the progress of the next installment of the critically-acclaimed video game. Thankfully, according to a recent report, the development is going further as the studio is continuously innovating the game by introducing the first female Latina protagonist, that players could freely play.
According to a report from Bloomberg, a new unnamed female Latina protagonist will be added as a playable character for the first time throughout the five-installment run of Grand Theft Auto. Although much hasn't been disclosed about the said female character, the new character's inclusion might be due to the creative changes inside Rockstar Games.
It's worth noting that the studio encountered an enormous backlash following some fan's outcry over GTA's online mode, called Cops ‘n’ Crooks where players can freely decide to follow either the good guys or bad guys and simulate an action-packed police chase mode. Sadly, the game was apparently 'tone-deaf' in terms of the police violence controversies swirling around worldwide and fueled some more buzz after George Floyd was killed by a police officer in 2020.
That said, Rockstar Games must be extremely cautious this time. According to the report, the studio plans to reinvent not just the game but also the company itself. Along with the changes inside GTA6, Rockstar Games are also enforcing tremendous creative decisions that include its schedules, hiring full-time contractors, and firing managers who are proven to be abusive. Amazingly, Rockstar Games intends to be more 'politically sensitive' this time, and management has also promised that excessive overtime won't be necessary for Grand Theft Auto 6.
Going back to the female character, the Latina woman would be "one in a pair inspired by the bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde," the report said.
Despite the massive delay due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, it's still good to know that the company is exerting effort in improving working conditions before heading over to the game’s improvement. And according to some of the staff, the morale inside the company improved since these new policies were implemented.
For now, Rockstar Games hasn't yet announced an official release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, but it could be Further Away Than We Expected.
