Gotham Will Be About Real People—But We’ll Still See Some Unusual Doubles

From the new details on Gotham, it feels like the show will be featuring some interesting characters.

There's the growing threat of Joker proto-vision Jerome. There's the big shout-out to the Indian Hill, with Poison Ivy's age-change being one of the bigger controversies. But at the same time, the show is keeping some of its central "human" characters in the center.

We're expecting Valerie Vale to come into the picture to become Jim Gordon's new love interest. His previous ladylove Dr. Lee Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) will still be back for the third season of Gotham, though she will also have her own love interest, in the form of Carmine Falcone's son Mario (James Carpinello).

This mix of super and normal seems to be the very balance that showrunner Bruno Heller is aiming for. According to The Hollywood Reporter, there's a reason why Gordon is actually the main face of Gotham, instead of the usual Batman or Bruce Wayne focal point.

"TV is about real people and faces and not so much about magic and the supernatural things. It's a tricky combination because you have to keep it real and unreal at the same time."

In the latter part, he is also pertaining to the roots of Gotham, which is based on the myth of the Batman and the comic book story. But staying at the center of the story, of course, is Gordon, who will be chasing down monsters, but who may also be on the collapse himself—on the inside that is.

Even with that, it doesn't mean that we won't see anything on the weird and odd side of Gotham. Poison Ivy's change is just the first step. CBR reported that Bruce (David Mazouz) will be meeting his doppelganger in season 3.

Without spilling any big details, Mazouz did say that he had played both roles during their scenes. And we should expect the other Bruce to be very weird, because apart from appearances, they are very different from each other.

Gotham will be back on Fox for season 3 on Sept. 19.
