Godzilla vs. King Kong Crossover Already in the Works

Ever wondered who would win in a fight, Godzilla or King Kong?

Now you may not have to wonder—you might actually see it on screen. Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures might just make this happen, if production talks prove fruitful.

But before that happens, Variety confirmed that a sequel to Godzilla will be expanding the franchise, as scriptwriters Michael Dougherty and Zach Shields are reportedly coming into the project.

And with this comes news that Legendary may be gearing up for the crossover universe that includes the two monsters. This follows the transfer of distribution rights from Universal Studios to Warner Bros., particularly for Kong: Skull Island.

This move appears to be the first step for Legendary, in order to ensure that crossover rights for Godzilla and Kong will not be hindered. The end goal of the move is to create an ecosystem for these giant monsters, which begs the question: how far and how big of a universe are we looking at here for these super monsters?

I guess it helps that back in 2015, Legendary CEO Thomas Tull had already voiced out his fanboy wish of wanting to see the Godzilla and King Kong fight. I guess we'll all be able to see that ourselves, and perhaps even place our bets.

Godzilla 2 will be heading to theaters sometime in March 22, 2019. The planned crossover, Godzilla vs. Kong will arrive a year afterwards on May 29, 2020.
