Godzilla: King of the Monsters Director Isn't Interested in Returning to the X-Men Franchise

One of the few good things about Disney buying Fox is knowing that we'll see the X-Men and Fantastic Four in the MCU proper. While some of us would have been okay with a few more Fox X-Men movies - Days of Future Past is a marvel to behold - the Fantastic Four really need some MCU love. Well, it seems like there is a certain sector of fans who aren't in a rush to see the X-Men again, including Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty.

Why would Dougherty feel this way? Well, before directing big-budget monster movies, he wrote scripts for X2: X-Men United and X-Men: Apocalypse, with the former clearly being better than the latter. He's clearly had a lot of time with the X-Men and that's actually the main reason why he's not in a hurry to work on that franchise.

Speaking with ComicBookMovie, here's what Dougherty had to say:

"No...not really! I love them but I think I've graduated from the Xavier School for The Gifted! [Laughs] I would much rather see them placed into the hands of fresh filmmakers."

He does have a point since the X-Men could really use a fresh set of writing hands. While they have been treated well by Fox, for the most part, it will be nice to have them under someone who actually wants to see them in superhero costumes. While it was understandable at the time, we're done with the black leather replacing cool/corny costumes.

As of this writing, Marvel Studios hasn't announced any X-Men movies yet. X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the last Fox X-Men movie, is now available on Blu-Ray.
