Ghost in the Shell Star Scarlett Johansson Says Monogamy Isn’t “Natural”

It looks like Ghost in the Shell and Avengers star Scarlett Johansson doesn't really believe in monogamy.

During an interview with Playboy (via The Washington Times) for the publications April/March issue to discuss her opinion on the U.S. presidential election back in 2016 and her controversial role as the Major in the live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, Johansson decided to open up about her opinion on marriage. Discussing the issue of societal convention and institution versus reality, the Hollywood celebrity expressed how she believed that it isn't natural "to be a monogamous person."

"Well, with every gain there's a loss, right? So that's a loss. You have to choose a path. I think the idea of marriage is very romantic; it's a beautiful idea, and the practice of it can be a very beautiful thing. I don't think it's natural to be a monogamous person. I might be skewered for that, but I think it's work. It's a lot of work."

"I think marriage initially involves a lot of people who have nothing to do with your relationship, because it's a legally binding contract, and that has a weight to it," she explained further. "Being married is different than not being married, and anybody who tells you that it's the same is lying."

Johansson should know how difficult marriage is. After previously being married to Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, the Marvel actress has just separated from her current husband, Romain Dauriac, an advertising executive who she's been married to for two years with a two-year-old girl. While love everlasting sounds like an extremely romantic notion, love definitely takes work and marriage is no walk in the park most of the time.

Johansson will return to the big screen in Ghost in the Shell which premieres on March 31 this year.
