Ghost In The Shell Promotional Campaign Receives Major Backlash

There's been a huge backlash from fans ever since Paramount Pictures announced that the Ghost in the Shell live-action film adaptation was getting Scarlett Johansson to play the role of the Japanese augmented-cybernetic human commander of Public Security Section 9, Major Motoko Kusanagi.

After fans criticized the film for "whitewashing" the live-action adaptation of the beloved cyberpunk anime film franchise, the production has been desperately trying to steer clear of the issue by simply naming Scarlett Johansson's character as The Major, who is later on revealed to be Meera – a name never spoken of in any Ghost in the Shell film.

Last Friday, production sent out a new video emphasizing Johansson's role as The Major, calling her the hunted and the hunter.

The video later on points fans to iammajor.me where they can make their own Ghost in the Shell themed images, something which have sparked a lot of white-washing memes from angered fans.

Though Paramount has desperately trying to build Johansson up as a character different from Motoko,it seems like fans aren't buying it all, getting more and more irked by the studio's attempts to erase its "whitewashing."
