It looks like Vin Diesel's Baby Groot isn't going just going to be all sugar and spice and everything nice in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2.
While Groot was more or less a kind-hearted gentle giant in the original Guardians of the Galaxy, a Screen Rant interview with the space romp's director, James Gunn, reveals a livelier, jerkier little Groot in the film's upcoming sequel.
" He's a unique little fella, and he's pretty great in the movie even though he's not even there. But all the time Chris is like "God dammit, he's gonna steal the f***ing movie." And it's nothing. It's nothing there, but he's funny even in the dailies we're watching. And we got the guy on a stick, and people are laughing. There's something really cool about him, and he's funny in the movie. He's a little jerk too."
Though Gunn mentioned that Baby Groot could also do some serious butt-kicking in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the tinier version of Rocket's (Bradley Cooper) tall wooden friend still thinks a bit too slowly.
"He's a baby. He's not very smart. So, he's stupid."
Of course, Groot was never too smart to begin with, however it's always brought some laughs in the original Guardians of the Galaxy and it's bound to bring in even more gags in the sequel. Remember that portion of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer where Baby Groot had a cute moment trying to figure out which button to push? We're definitely going to see a more mischievous side to Groot this year.
Guardians of the GalaxyVol. 2 premieres on the big screen on May 5 this year.
