Geoff Johns Compares Green Lantern Corps Movie to Green Lantern: Rebirth

While everyone is excited for the upcoming Green Lantern Corps movie Geoff Johns is involved in, fans still have bad memories of the 2011 Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds. It even seems like Reynolds isn't a fan of the film, mocking it a number of times in both Deadpool and Deadpool 2. Keep in mind that Johns also had some input in the 2011 film, so there are some doubts about this new project.

Still, with both the Shazam and Aquaman trailers impressing fans it seems like DC is on the right track to be better again. Johns is also making sure Green Lantern Corps lives up to fan expectations and might have even added some extra pressure, as he compared it to his Green Lantern: Rebirth series.

During an interview with IGN Johns said that he would be reinventing the Green Lantern mythos just like he did with the Rebirth mini-series. That was the book that made the property a hot one for DC at the time, bringing back Hal Jordan and making the cosmic side of DC noteworthy again.

"It's a complete re-imagining, just like I did Green Lantern: Rebirth in the comics. I'm going to be hopefully delivering a script that Warner loves and DC likes and they want to make it. It's "going to celebrate the mythology and reinvent it in a different way."

Johns still has to submit a script to DC and Warner Bros. to see if they like it, so fans shouldn't expect a release date anytime soon. Still, his confidence in the project could bode well and it could give us the cinematic Green Lantern movie we all deserve. Here's hoping it lives up to the hype.
