Geeks Unite To Find Dragon Con Sexual Assault Suspect

The Atlanta police are rallying the community of fans in a "calling all cars moment" as they search for a suspect that sexually assaulted a Dragon Con attendee this past Saturday night. There's a $2,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect.

According to 11Alive news, "Atlanta police are searching for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman attending the DragonCon convention over the weekend." The suspect in question said he was "Gary from Marietta" and was seen wearing an FBI cap, On early Sunday morning, "Gary" led the victim away from the event when she started not feeling well, and assaulted her between 3 am and 5 am near the mall at Peachtree Center.

Anyone, with any information on the assault, was asked to call Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477) and a $2,000 reward was offered. Meanwhile, on social media, fans posted to the Atlanta and Dragon Con subreddits what insights and information they had including tips on where he might have been staying and where he might have worked or is currently working.

WSBTV has since reported that Atlanta police have been "flooded" with information about the case. "Channel 2's Matt Johnson talked to a police lieutenant who tells him the suspect needs to be formally identified by the victim before they can go any further in identifying him and making an arrest," they said.

Meanwhile, Dragon Con released a statement regarding this problem:

Dragon Con is proud to offer a safe and inclusive convention for its members that is free of harassment or assault of any kind. We work with the Atlanta Police Department all year to develop and install procedures to prevent issues such as these. If and when they occur, we insure they are handled by the appropriate authorities. APD is on site throughout the convention.
As a matter of policy, Dragon Con does not comment on any specific incident. All questions should be directed to APD.

While I was at Dragon Con, on Sunday afternoon, I remember seeing about five attendees talking to Atlanta Police near the front entrance of Marriott. It's very likely that they were investigating the case at that time.

If you attended at Dragon Con and have any information, please reach out to the Atlanta Police Department at 404-614-6544, or Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
