After an extensive search, it looks like Gavin O'Connor is going to be the director Suicide Squad 2. O'Connor will also be writing the film with partner Anthony Tambakis, after they successfully pitched their concept for the sequel to Warner Bros. Said pitch has yet to be discussed, but fans can only hope that it ends up being better than the first film.

Deadline acknowledged that this is a huge job for O'Connor, who previously worked on The Accountant and Warrior. While Suicide Squad wasn't a critical darling, it made a lot of money for Warner Bros and DC, showing that the "worst heroes ever" have a lot of fans. It will be interesting to see what O'Connor can bring to the table, and if it ties into David Ayer's Gotham City Sirens spinoff.

Previous reports claimed that Warner Bros were "fast-tracking" Suicide Squad 2, which got fans worried. The first film's script had to be written by David Ayer in six weeks, and the rush job really showed on the final product, despite the amazing trailers that came beforehand. Now that Will Smith is busy with the live-action Aladdin, it looks like the sequel won't feel rushed.

No release date has been revealed for Suicide Squad 2, though a 2019 window has been tossed around. Here is hoping that the sequel improves upon the few good qualities the first film had, and learns from its faults.
