Game Of Thrones’ Spinoff Set To Begin Production In 2019

Game of Thrones might be ending with its eighth and final season next month, but that doesn't mean that HBO's done with George R.R. Martin's fantasy epic universe just yet.

The premier cable network has been working on producing a handful of Game of Thrones spinoffs and it looks like the spinoff written by Jane Golden might begin production sometime in 2019.

Though it might be a bit disappointing considering that word had it earlier this month that the spinoff's pilot could begin filming this fall, it's good to see that HBO will be working on the spinoff while it'll be airing the last season of Game of Thrones. The studio has also begun searching for a director and casting director for the upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff.

Those who've been following news about the upcoming Game of Thrones series know that the spinoff will follow the events before HBO's fantasy epic and now it looks like we have detailed description of the show's story thanks to the first press release (via ComicBook.com):

"Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour... And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend... it's not the story we think we know."

Based on the press release, it looks like the spinoff is going to debunk a few of the historical "facts" we think we know based on information from Game of Thrones, and it looks like it's going to be a dark and dangerous ride.

Game of Thrones season 8 premieres early in 2019.
