Game of Thrones Season 7 Will Zoom in on Cersei

Now that the casting call for Game of Thrones' next season has finally been outed, it's likely that fans will start looking for clues as to where the series is going.

Granted, the creators haven't stopped the bandwagon of Game of Thrones even with the end of season 6. But from the looks of it, writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss know who and where they're turning their eyes on next season.,

Speaking to Deadline, Benioff and Weiss shared that fans will see more of the mind behind the current ruler and Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, Cersei Lannister.

When we last left Game of Thrones, Cersei literally embodies the saying "it's lonely at the top." All her three children are dead, her supposed allies now coming for her in a thousand-fleet army, and her brother-slash-lover looking at her like he wouldn't touch her with a 10-foot pole.

For the most part, Cersei hadn't been on her best behavior the entire season 6. Trying to one-up the politically sassier Margery Tyrell and opposing the sharp-tongued grandmother didn't do her any good. And now, because of her decisions, even her only son Tommen had defied her by committing suicide. Because following his dead Queen would be better than staying with his mom.

"That's what so much of next season is going to be about; finding out what Cersei's mindset is, and who is she? Cersei has certainly done a lot of horrible things in her life and she could be a very cruel person, but the one thing that was redemptive about her was she genuinely loved her children. Now they're all gone, and I think that is very interesting for us. Who is she, without her children?"

This would be an interesting focus. Cersei had always been The Big Bad in the Seven Kingdoms—not counting the looming threat of the White Walkers. She has always tried to defy anyone who tries to stand up for her, or at least anyone who just gets on her nerves.

Now that she's the Queen, it would be nice to see how she takes on her opponents next. Will we see more of her pettiness in getting revenge? Or is there actually a deeper uncorrupted instinct in her that will make her human again in our eyes?

Game of Thrones will be back next summer for its second to the last season.
