Gal Gadot Shares the Vision for Wonder Woman’s Character

Wonder Woman will be delving into her world of Themyscira, if the recent trailers are anything to go by. And we will be seeing her as one of the goddesses that DC has known her to be.

But according to actress Gal Gadot, her character will go beyond what comic fans and moviegoers have come to expect as the mighty Amazon Princess. Speaking to Variety, Gadot revealed that the focus of the story was to bring the basics of Wonder Woman's character and persona on film.

"It was very important to not just portray her as a goddess, but to tell a very simple story of someone who believes in good and believes that people should be happy and lead safe, happy lives. We cared a lot about simplifying Wonder Woman's agenda, because it is simple. It was her heart that we cared about, not her being this warrior."

Gadot believes that Jenkins had pursued this direction, and had kept in mind the story of how a girl grows up to become a woman—in this case, how Diana grows into her role.

Of course, touching on Themyscira brings up several possibilities, especially one that has been recently touched on by Wonder Woman writer Greg Rucka. Some may be wondering if hints of Wonder Woman's bisexual tendencies may also be in the film.

To this, Gadot said that this characterization was not explored during the filming. However, she does point out that, given Diana's time in Themyscira, the possibility of that storyline being expounded on in the movie.

"In this movie she does not experience any bisexual relationships. But it's not about that. She's a woman who loves people for who they are. She can be bisexual. She loves people for their hearts."

Wonder Woman will be hitting theaters on June 2, 2017.
