Gal Gadot Responds to Haters Who Want A Bustier Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is the first film ever to see the iconic superheroine grace the silver screen. Of course, with every actress and character comes detractors, and Gadot’s Diana Prince wasn’t short of that.

On Thursday’s episode of Conan, the 30-year-old Israeli actress told late night host Conan O’Brien how she handles the negative attention that comes with putting on the suit for the highly coveted role, particularly the comments of how she doesn’t have Wonder Woman’s “big bust.”

Conan started the conversation, saying:

There were comments they wanted her to be more bosomy.

Gadot joked:

Bigger hearts. Yes, there were some people who had a lot to say about my hearts. At the end of the day you can’t please them all, and I completely understand that. And if you want to be original to the story, the Amazons used to have only one breast, because it was in the way with the [bow and arrow].

The actress went on to explain:

Eventually after many creative conversations with Zack [Snyder, the film’s director], we decided to keep them both.

Check out the actress’ response at the 0:39 mark:

It’s not the first time that Gadot discussed the topic of her breasts on a late night show. During a recent Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance, the Israeli actress told Kimmel: “I thought you were leading to the fact that a lot of comic fans had a lot to say about my breasts.”

Gadot may seem to have brushed off the backlash in the aforementioned interviews, but when the actress spoke to news.com.auprior to the premiere of Batman v Superman, she has this response to critics:

You know, men. Every one of them is obsessed with breasts. Honestly, it amused me. It was funny for me that it’s such an amazing character and all they have to critique is her bust.
Me, as a person, I try not to pay too much attention to all the noise that comes when I get cast for something. Even if it’s good or even if it’s bad — because one day it’s good and the other day it’s bad, so I’d rather not pay attention to either.

Wonder Woman is one of the most influential feminist icons both in literature and pop culture and it’s not surprising that Gadot has her own share of detractors portraying the role. It’s a good thing she has a good head on her shoulders and it appears like she knows how to handle the negativity that comes with the role.

Personally, I think the upcoming Wonder Woman has high potential of breaking boundaries both commercially and culturally. The movie already has a promising director with Patty Jenkins (Monster).

Wonder Woman is slated for release on June 23, 2017.
