With a production date set for January of next year, the Birds of Prey pre-production is moving steadily forward. Just now, we have news on the full roster of gals who will be teaming up with Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn for the film.
According to the Wrap, Harley will be joined by characters Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, and GCPD Detective Renee Montoya. It's also been said that the villain for the film will be a Batman villain, but there was no specific one mentioned.
A lot of people were expecting Batgirl to be in this roster, but since she is set to have her own solo movie, it's possible that they're skipping her for this outing. Then again, there was no objection to having Barbara Gordon appear in the film. Perhaps the Birds will build up to Barbara getting her own movie?
Let's also not forget that Cassandra Cain herself is the fourth person to don the Batgirl mantle. So maybe they could allude to that in some way in the film.
As for the identity of the villain, there are a ton from Batman's rogues gallery to choose from, but I would love it if they gave us someone completely new. Josh Gad had been campaigning for the role of the Penguin months before, so maybe he could play the villain? I would be fine with someone more obscure like The Ventriloquist or Scarecrow. How about Calendar Man?
No release date has been set for Birds of Prey, but with the production date, some are thinking the movie could come out in 2020.
