In a move many will find interesting, former Riverdale star Ross Butler has been cast for next year's DC superhero movie Shazam! The film is already packed with plenty of notable names, including Chuck star Zachary Levi who will be portraying Shazam, the hero Billy Batson turns into, and awesome villain actor Mark Strong, playing Doctor Savanna.

Butler's casting was confirmed by Variety, though it's not yet known who he will be playing as. Rumor has it that he will be a superpowered version of one of Billy Batson's adopted siblings, further hinting at the New 52 connection. We'll have to wait and see who Butler ends up being since there are no obvious choices right now.

Most fans know Butler from the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why and Riverdale, the latter of which had him replaced. Butler was the original Reggie Mantle for the show, though there wasn't much fanfare when he was relieved of his CW duties. Hopefully, he leaves a bigger impact on this DC project.

Shazam could be one of the more interesting superhero films coming out since it has a kid turning into a superhero. The character has been used for some great storylines, from the imaginative classics in the Golden Age to the fun reimaginings like Shazam vs The Monster Society of Evil and even the New 52 version from Geoff Johns and Gary Frank.

Shazam comes out on April 5, 2019.
