Force Awakens and Last Jedi Teaser Comparison Video Maps Out Lucasfilm’s Formula

While a lot of Star Wars fans were really happy that Lucasfilm really did unveil the new teaser trailer for The Last Jedi during the 2017 Star Wars Celebration Orlando earlier this month, others have been comparing the preview to the Force Awakens teaser. Sure the two are previews for entirely different films, however fans can’t help but spot the many similarities between the two videos.

Last week we featured a video playing the Force Awakens and Last Jedi teasers side by side. This time, we’re featuring another comparison video between the two videos created by YouTuber James Van Fleet. Unlike the video done by Morphin Bad which simply plays the teasers side by side, this one maps out the different formula points that Lucasfilm has been using in its teasers.

Check it out down here:

From what James Van Fleet calls “OT Callback: Darth Vader” to all the “Explosions and running,” we certainly get to see what makes The Last Jedi preview reminiscent of The Force Awakens teaser. Sure some points of similarity are pretty given (like the Lucasfilm Logo which will always appears before the start of a new Star Wars trailer), Van Fleet does really manage to show the formula the studio’s been using in its recent teasers.  It’s also pretty funny how the YouTube User tries to take a jab at the fandom by calling the appearance of the titles of both films in the teasers as “Kneel Before Your new God.”
