First Trailer For Star Trek: Discovery Features New Species, Fresh Faces & Conflict With Klingons

"Before Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise there was Discovery."

After a long wait, CBS has finally released the first trailer for Star Trek: Discovery. The series is set a decade before the events of the original 1960s Star Trek TV series, and it introduces new characters, including First Officer Michael Burnham (played by Sonequa Martin-Green) and Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), the captain of the starship Shenzhou. Although Martin-Green's character is clearly human, the trailer suggests that she may have been raised by Vulcans. The new show also stars Jason Isaacs as the captain of the series' titular starship, Discovery, as well as Doug Jones as a new death-sensing alien, Maulik Pancholy as the ship's doctor, Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd, Anthony Rapp as fellow science officer Stamets, and Terry Serpico as Starfleet admiral Anderson.

The trailer promises a conflict with the Klingons, and shows a lot of pretty CGI visuals. However, it also hints a return to the kind of moral quandaries and philosophical discussions that made the earlier Star Trek TV shows compelling.

Star Trek: Discovery is set to premiere this Fall on CBS before being available in CBS All Access.
