First New Look At Thanos For Avengers: Infinity War Uses More Practical FX

It has been over four years since The Mad Titan known as Thanos first showed up in a brief post credit scene in The Avengers. Ever since, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been showing quick teases of the villain, all leading up to the two-part Avengers: Infinity War films, starting in 2018. Today, the visual effects company Ironhead Studio revealed a new look at Thanos:

While Thanos was initially adapted to the big screen with a blend of CGI and practical makeup effects on actor Damion Poitier, the Mad Titan's next appearances were fully CGI with actor Josh Brolin's motion-capture performance and voice. This explains why Thanos looks less photo-real during his cameos in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Guardians of the Galaxy mid-credits scenes.

It would be crazy to entirely ditch the CGI to portray Thanos in the two-part Infinity War films, but Ironhead Studios, who designed his gold/purple armor, showed us how awesome the supervillain would look with much less VFX and mostly practical effects.

So what do you think of Thanos' new look?

Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 (not official title) is set to release in theaters on May 4, 2018.
