First Look At The Amazon Warriors Training Wonder Woman & Her Birthplace Themyscira

While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice features two of the biggest superheroes in comic book and movie history, it's also the first time Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) is introduced into the silver screen. She's also one of the most talked about, especially since her solo movie is the next DC film to grace theaters.

With that, we're already getting promos for the Amazonian's debut into the big screen as early as now. While Wonder Woman is hailed as the greatest female warrior in history, she wouldn't be one without the help and guidance of equally great female warriors.

In Wonder Woman, Diana is transformed from a young princess to a warrior in the world of men by three regal women – Diana's mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), and military aunts General Antiope (Robin Wright) and Antiope's lieutenant, Menalippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli).

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, director Patty Jenkins described how Themyscira, Diana's birthplace, was created, and how her mother and aunts trained her.

Apparently, the trio don't exactly agree on how to raise Diana. Queen Hippolyta wants to keep her daughter sheltered from the outside world of course, but Antiope wants the princess prepared for the real world.

Jenkins told EW:

She is the only child they raised together. And their love for her manifests in a different way for each of them.

On their costumes, Jenkins said:

To me, they shouldn't be dressed in armor like men. It should be different. It should be authentic and real – and appealing to women.

This vision turned costumes into ones that flaunted the women's "ripped shoulders and toned legs." Even the high heels are part of that vision. Jenkins defended:

It's total wish-fulfillment. I, as a woman, want Wonder Woman to be hot as hell, fight badass, and look great at the same time – the same way men want Superman to have huge pecs and an impractically big body. That makes them feel like the hero they want to be. And my hero, in my head, has really long legs.

The warriors still wore flats during heavy fights anyhow.

As for Themyscira, Jenkins said she and her team thought of used exotic islands like Italy and southern China. Producer Charles Roven also explained:

Themyscira is influenced by the Greek but it's clearly more then that. It's a place that has the ‘you've never been to' kind of feel. But once you're there you're not so sure you really want to leave so fast.

Wonder Woman is looking up to be more and more badass. I'm expecting more awesome promos from this movie soon. Hopefully, a trailer will be one of them.

Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
