First Look At Hailee Steinfeld From The Bumblebee Spinoff Movie

With Michael Bay (finally) bowing out of the Transformers franchise, there's a lot of new potential on where the property could go. We've been slowly getting some news on the Bumblee spinoff movie, and now we have a first look at protagonist Charlie played by Hailee Steinfeld.

I love the 80s punk look, with the Motorhead shirt and the ripped jeans. The movie is said to be a prequel which will follow the story of Bumblebee before he ran into Sam Witwicky, and here he's going to be a yellow Volkswagen Beetle—just like in the original cartoon!

Here's the movie synopsis:

The story is set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

Besides Steinfeld, the movie will also star John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg, Abby Quinn, Jason Drucker, Ricardo Hoyos, and Rchel Crow. The movie is also being directed by Travis Knight, who is best known for his animated movie, Kubo and the Two Strings.

Besides the whole problem with prequel stories, I'm actually interested to see what direction Transformers is going to from this point. After the sludge of explosion-filled Michael Bay movies, I'd like to see someone else take on Transformers this time around.

Bumblebee is set to come out Dec. 21, 2018.
