Final Fantasy VIII Director Comments on a Possible Final Fantasy VIII Remake

Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is now available for fans to play on a number of gaming systems and that's a good thing. Say what you will about the JRPG and its flaws but considering how gaming has the worst track record of keeping its past relevant (at least until recently with all the remasters and remakes) the fact that anyone can buy Final Fantasy VIII right now is a miracle.

Since the remaster has become a success, it got fans wondering about a possible Final Fantasy VIII Remake in the same vein as next year's highly-anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake. In an interview with Famitsu (via Ryokutya2089 and Siliconera), original Final Fantasy VIII director Yoshinori Kitase gave his thoughts on a possible remake of the game.

Here is what he had to say:

"If the youth that inherits the genes of Final Fantasy can step up and do it, then I'd like to see it made. For Final Fantasy VII Remake, the project started from my desire to make Final Fantasy VII with today's technology while I'm still here at Square Enix. So I'd like to see it [Final Fantasy VIII Remake] done by the youth of Square Enix."

Kitase wanting the youth to work on Final Fantasy VIII Remake, if it's ever made, is nice to see. The fact that he trusts the possible future to Square Enix's upcoming developers is cool and we would love to see a remake of this underrated gem. Here's hoping that it lives up to our expectations, should it ever be made.

Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is now available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released on PS4 on March 3, 2020.
