Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Will Only Have Online Multiplayer Across All Platforms

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition comes out late next month to a number of gaming systems after a few delays. It's a remaster fans are going to love, thanks to cross-play between all gaming systems, new dungeons to participate in, and voice acting that wasn't in the original Gamecube release, among other improvements. While we're all glad that we won't need a convoluted Gameboy Advance setup for friendly fun, there is some bad news in regards to this remastered game's multiplayer.

As this article's title shows, Crystal Chronicles Remastered only has online multiplayer so those hoping for some couch co-op fun are going to be highly disappointed. While the news does make sense for iOS and Android devices, it's an infuriating option for those with a PS4 or Nintendo Switch since those systems have multiple ways to support couch co-op.

It's hard to understand the reasoning for this since the original game technically supported couch co-op, albeit with three GBAs. Square Enix was probably banking on cross-play being such a hit that fans won't need local multiplayer, which makes a little sense given the current climate but is still a dumb move overall.

We're sure that this news will dampen the excitement some have for Crystal Chronicles Remastered, particularly Switch owners since that system already comes with two joycons. Many will likely argue that this isn't the worst news ever since the game does have some single-player content and plenty of new additions but this is still a hard pill to swallow.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition comes out on PS4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android on August 27.
