Fate of the Furious Helmer in Talks to Direct Upcoming Men in Black Movie

The last Men in Black movie had underperformed in the box office back in 2012, and Sony is having plans on revamping the franchise. The idea to have the MIB crossover with 21 Jump Street apparently fizzled out, but now they have someone to potentially helm the film.

According to Deadline, Straight Outta Compton and The Fate of the Furious director F. Gary Gray is currently in talks to direct the film. The new Men in Black will be a joint venture between Sony Pictures and Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, and will have a script provided by Iron Man's screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum.

Though I would have preferred to see the Jump Street franchise crossover, I'm also open to a relaunch of the MIB title. Personally, I think the movie should just pull a Jumanji 2 and be an extension of the known world instead of a full-on reboot. God knows we already have too many.

With Fate of the Furious making serious bank at the box office ($1.2 billion), I would like to see what Gray has to bring to the MIB franchise. It is due for a revisit, and the world would be fun to build on. I was just kind of hoping that Men in Black/Jumpstreet movie was in the works too.

The upcoming Men in Black movie is expected to come out June 14, 2019.
